Fuzzy Zoeller came on strong on the back nine and grabbed a share of the lead when Nick Price bogeyed two late holes in Saturday’s third round of the $1.1-million Federal Express-St. Jude Classic at Memphis, Tenn.

Price took the lead with four birdies on the front nine but fell within Zoeller’s reach when he three-putted the 14th and hit a four-iron approach wide on the 17th.

Zoeller surprised himself with a 40-foot birdie putt from the edge of the green on the par-4, 430-yard 13th.

“It just happened that the hole got in the way,” Zoeller said. “I was trying to make four and I made three.”

Zoeller, who shot 65, and Price, who had a 66, finished at 13-under-par 200 for three rounds over the 7,006-yard Tournament Players Club at Southwind.

Gil Morgan, Fred Funk and Rick Fehr were at 202 and second-round leader Jeff Maggert was joined at 203 by Mark Brooks and Davis Love III. Morgan and Brooks shared the day’s low score at 64, Funk shot 65, Love 66 and Fehr 68. Maggert fell off to a 71.

Donna Andrews, who barely missed her first LPGA victory in last week’s U.S. Women’s Open, shot six-under-par 66 for a three-stroke lead after three rounds of the Ping-Welch’s Championship at Canton, Mass.

Andrews used only 26 putts and stretched her streak of bogey-free holes to 35. She finished at 11-under 205 after starting the third round three strokes behind leader Helen Alfredsson of Sweden.

Alfredsson, Stefania Croce, Val Skinner and Missie Berteotti were tied for second at 208, two strokes ahead of Pat Bradley, Dottie Mochrie and Danielle Ammaccapane.

Walt Zembriski, who gave up his cross-handed putting style, sank a 13-foot downhill putt on the final hole for a four-under-par 68 to grab sole possession of the lead at the $550,000 Northville Long Island Classic in Jericho, N.Y.

Zembriski is winless on the Senior PGA Tour the last four years. He goes into today’s final round with a 138, one stroke better than Dave Stockton, who also birdied the par three, 167-yard 18th hole for a 68.
