Aulby Rolls a 300 to Win at Wichita
Mike Aulby grabbed a piece of Professional Bowlers Assn. history Saturday, becoming the third player to win a tournament by rolling a 300 game as he won the $140,000 Wichita Open.
Aulby needed perfection to beat David Ozio of Vidor, Tex., 300-279, in the title match. It was the highest losing score in a televised PBA match.
It was the second time a bowler rolled a 300 in a regular-tour title match. Bob Benoit did it in 1988 in winning at Grand Prairie, Tex. Earlier this season, Ron Winger became the first player on the PBA senior tour to bowl a 300 in the title match when he won at Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
