SPORTSCOPE : Thomas’ Trial Starts on Aug. 24

The drug trial of former Dodger Derrel Thomas is scheduled to start Aug. 24 in Los Angeles Superior Court. Jury selection will begin Aug. 19.

Thomas, a former baseball coach at Leuzinger and Dorsey highs, is charged with conspiring to sell, buy and transport cocaine. Thomas, who attended Dorsey, had returned to his alma mater as a walk-on coach shortly before his arrest on April 24, 1992. He was released on his own recognizance and fired three days later as the Don coach.
