Two people, one a 7-year-old girl, were killed and six others injured in a head-on collision early Sunday morning at an intersection on Pearblossom Highway in Littlerock, California Highway Patrol officers said.

Cuduhtemoc Mujeca, 31, of Sylmar and the unidentified child, who lived in San Fernando, died when a westbound car drifted across the center line and collided with their vehicle about 1:40 a.m., CHP Officer Greg Nelson said.

Skid marks found on the road indicate that the unidentified driver of the car carrying the victims who died swerved to the right but was unable to avoid the oncoming vehicle, Nelson said.

Mujeca was pronounced dead at Lancaster Community Hospital, and the girl was taken to Palmdale Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The six other unidentified crash victims, some of whom may have been in the oncoming car, were taken to Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center and the Lancaster and Palmdale hospitals, Nelson said.

The Lancaster CHP office is investigating the crash, which occurred at the intersection of Pearblossom Highway and 87th Street, Nelson said.

The winding two-lane highway was the scene of another fatal accident July 24, when a motorcyclist hit a truck after drifting across the center line.

“People really drive fast on that road, and there’s no center divider to keep them apart,” Nelson explained.
