Four people were left homeless by an early-morning fire Sunday that swept through a Santa Clarita apartment building, fire officials said.

The two-alarm blaze, which began at 5:22 a.m., destroyed two apartments at the complex at 27077 Hideaway Ave., according to Christa Tolliver, a Los Angeles County fire dispatcher supervisor.

Forty firefighters from 10 companies extinguished the blaze in 25 minutes as Red Cross workers attended to the displaced residents.
