THOUSAND OAKS : Man Files Lawsuit Against Park District

Share

A man who claims to have lost the tip of his left index finger in the door of a racquetball court filed suit on Monday in Ventura County Superior Court against the Conejo Recreation and Park District.

Christopher Pinney, whose age and address were not provided in court papers, says he had the tip of his finger amputated after catching it in the closing door of a Thousand Oaks Community Center racquetball court last November.

He blames the park district for negligently maintaining the door, which his suit claims was loose from its hinge. The lawsuit also names the door’s manufacturer, although the specific company is listed as unknown in the suit.

Costa Mesa attorney Shelley M. Liberto, who filed the suit on behalf of Pinney, is asking for general damages of $50,000 and $250,000 in lost wages because he says his client can no longer use a computer at work.

Park district officials were not available Monday to comment.
