Troy Aikman worked out in pads with the Dallas Cowboys, the first time since off-season surgery.

Aikman is far ahead of his recovery schedule after undergoing surgery for a herniated disk June 19 and hopes to be ready for the season-opener against the Washington Redskins on Sept. 6.

Coach Jimmy Johnson hasn’t decided when Aikman will appear in his first exhibition game. He is not likely to play when the Cowboys entertain the Raiders on Saturday.

Miami lost running back Aaron Craver for the season because of a knee injury and unsigned running back Bobby Humphrey was given an ultimatum to be in camp today or the Dolphins will reduce their $650,000 contract offer. Craver tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during practice.

Center Kevin Brothen also tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and also will miss the season.

Quarterback Jeff George has been given a two-week warning to join the Indianapolis Colts of regular-season paychecks, $110,000 each, will start being lost.
