Pasadena Pastor Charged in Molestation Case Freed on Bail

A Pasadena pastor accused of sexually molesting a 15-year-old girl was released from county jail early Wednesday on a $30,000 bond, officials said.

The Rev. George Nathan Bolden Jr., 33, had been in custody since July 27 in lieu of $112,500 bail. But that amount was sharply reduced Tuesday by Glendale Municipal Judge Joseph DeVanon, who received statements from Pasadena Mayor Rick Cole and Police Chief Jerry A. Oliver about the minister’s community service and good character.

Bolden, the head minister at First African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, faces seven felony counts, including lewd acts with a child, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and oral copulation.

Investigators say that the molestations occurred at the victim’s Glendale home May 14, May 26 and June 21. The victim and her mother, who reported the case to Glendale Police, had been members of Bolden’s congregation, prosecutors say.
