Joe Montana, looking very much like his old self, was six for 11 for 97 yards in his Kansas City debut Thursday night in the Chiefs’ first exhibition sellout in 20 years.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, Montana’s replacements threw four interceptions and the Chiefs lost three fumbles and the Buffalo Bills won, 30-7.

Montana played the first two possessions and was sacked once but did not throw an interception.

After his first pass was nullified by an interference penalty and his second fell incomplete, Montana hit five in a row, including completions of 24 yards to J.J. Birden and 24 to Willie Davis.

On first-and-goal from the seven, Montana’s pass to tight end Jonathan Hayes carried to the edge of the goal line. But two running plays by Harvey Williams were stopped and then Henry Jones batted down Montana’s pass to tight end Mike Dyal in the end zone.

Former Raider Marcus Allen, another newcomer to Kansas City, gained 26 yards in nine carries and scored the Chiefs’ only touchdown with a one-yard run.

Reggie Langhorne, the Indianapolis Colts’ top receiver last season, was arrested on charges of drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident. He was released on $2,000 bond.

Quarterback Scott Secules, who played the first quarter of the New England Patriots’ exhibition opener against San Diego last week, will start Saturday night against the Cleveland Browns in Toronto. . . . Left guard Duval Love, who had an appendectomy Wednesday, will miss the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the New York Giants. Quarterback Randall Cunningham will play almost a half tonight against the New York Jets, with reserves Bubby Brister and Casey Weldon going the rest of the way. . . . Defensive lineman Mike Fox, given five days by the New York Giants to either sign a contract or face the loss of a game’s pay, reached agreement on a two-year deal.
