RUNWAY TO REALITY : Long on Collars, Cuffs, Style

Share

The Look: This fall, women who dress like English dandies ready for a horseback ride will be right in fashion. Three-piece suits, white shirts with extra-long collars and neat little neckties are the way to go. And don’t forget the top hat.

Do It Big: Last spring, Milan-based Domenco Dolce and Stefano Gabbana showed the dandy look with a ‘70s Mod spin. One pantsuit from their new collection has a long, body-contoured riding jacket with romantic puff sleeves. The blouse under it has long collar points and long, droopy cuffs. The jacket and wide-cuffed trousers, in light-weight wool, make up a suit priced at $1,100. The designers suggest wearing it with their pin-stripe vest, at $350, as well as the white cotton shirt, $325, including cuff links. The outfit is available at Shauna Stein, L.A.

Total: $1,775.

Do It Budget: Los Angeles designers Nina Kolarek and David Cline of Nina K are into the dandy look, too. Their black wool-crepe riding jacket with antique-look oval buttons is $192. The high-button brocade-and-velvet vest worn with it is $120. The white crepe shirt with long collar and droopy cuffs is $90. Matching wide-cuff trousers are $90. Nina K designs are sold at Bullock’s, Hollywood Gallery in L.A. and Notorious in L.A. The collapsible silk top hat is $195 at Maddest Hatter, L.A.
