A 41-year-old Camarillo man died of multiple internal injuries in a four-car accident in Moorpark on Friday night, the Ventura County medical examiner’s office reported Saturday.

Karl Edward Gonser, vice president and chief technical officer of Technical Data Corp. in Moorpark, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 5:20 p.m. collision, said Senior Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens.

One driver suspected of causing the accident fled the scene and was being sought for questioning, the California Highway Patrol said.

Gonser was traveling south on Moorpark Road south of Tierra Rejada Road when a northbound car entered his lane to attempt to pass other vehicles, the CHP said.

As Gonser approached, the passing car swerved briefly onto the road’s shoulder before returning to the northbound lane, the CHP said. Gonser then lost control of his car and hit an oncoming car. A second northbound car hit Gonser’s BMW in the driver’s side, police said.

The driver of the second car that broadsided Gonser’s suffered major injuries, police said. Kraig Granger was listed in serious condition Saturday at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, a nursing supervisor said.

The driver of the car first hit by Gonser’s suffered only minor injuries, police said.
