Tailback Sharmon Shah, who underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove cartilage from his left knee last Wednesday, said he hopes to return for the Nebraska game on Sept. 18 at the Rose Bowl.

“I don’t think I lost too much strength, but I’m just waiting for the swelling to go down,” Shah said. “After I get the swelling down, it’ll be a week after that (before he resumes practicing).”

Shah, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound sophomore who rushed for 124 yards and one touchdown last season, had been expected to contend for a starting job this season before his injury.
