Share

Senior starters Brad Banta and Mike Salmon suffered minor injuries during practice Monday morning. Banta, tight end and long snapper on kicks, suffered a sprained right knee. Salmon, free safety and kick holder, suffered a sprained right ankle. Both are expected to be sidelined for a couple of workouts.

Shortly before last Saturday’s scrimmage, linebacker Willie McGinest broke a steel support on a blocking sled, in full view of some reporters and a crew of Pacific 10 Conference officials.

“That’s a typical, cheap USC publicity stunt,” one official said. “They saw four-fifths of the way through the thing with a hacksaw, then let McGinest break it after arranging to have the press standing there.”
