Chuck Knox, always considered a man’s man when it comes to football, now coaches a player who reports to practice wearing a large gold necklace.

“He usually gets on the guys about wearing earrings,” fullback Tim Lester said. “He never said anything about necklaces.”

Knox had nothing to say about Lester’s jewelry Monday, but he had a lot of praise for his starting fullback.

“This guy will block you, he’s got better running skills than a lot of people think and he’s a good special teams player,” Knox said.

“We’re going to try and get the ball to him Saturday (against the Browns in Cleveland).”

The Rams moved Lester to tailback Monday for the first time during training camp. Lester gained 3,635 yards as a tailback at Eastern Kentucky.

The Green Bay Packers announced Monday that they have relinquished signing rights to 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive lineman Ron Hallstrom, thereby leaving him free to go elsewhere.

The Rams brought Hallstrom to Rams Park in the off-season and considered signing him before making the trade to acquire Leo Goeas from the San Diego Chargers.
