BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ELSEWHERE : Return Painful for Van Slyke

Pittsburgh Pirate center fielder Andy Van Slyke, on rehabilitation assignment in Zebulon, N.C., with the Carolina Mudcats of the double-A Southern League, was scratched from the starting lineup Wednesday because of pain in his shoulder and chest.
Van Slyke, who broke his right collar bone in June, returned to Pittsburgh to be evaluated by team doctors.
Van Slyke had struck out three times in five at-bats in two games with the Mudcats.
