FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Public Is Invited to View Turtle Exhibit
The public is invited to visit a private collection of about 600 turtles and tortoises Saturday and Sunday at Casa de Tortuga.
The open house, held from noon to 4 p.m. both days, is free.
The collection of reptiles includes about 100 species and ranges from 300-pound Galapagos Islands tortoises to hatchling diamondback terrapins.
Endangered species, including the California desert tortoise, will also be on hand for public view.
Walter Allen, owner of Casa de Tortuga and known as the “patron saint of turtles and tortoises,” shares his collection with the public to broaden awareness about the conservation and care of these shelled creatures.
Tours are also available at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
Casa de Tortuga is at 10455 Circulo de Zapata. Take Warner Avenue to Ward Street and turn south; Circulo de Zapata is the third street on the right.
