A Classic Dash Makes All American Field

A Classic Dash, the 2-year-old quarter horse who won the Dash For Cash Futurity at Los Alamitos in late July, qualified for the All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico on Friday, the first Southland-based horse to earn a spot in quarter horse racing’s richest race in two years.

A Classic Dash, owned by Abigail Kawananakoa of Honolulu and trained by Connie Hall of Anaheim, won the third of 19 440-yard trials, running the distance in 21.59 seconds. His time was the second-fastest and he is expected to be the second-favorite in the Labor Day final.

A Classic Dash was ridden by Eddie Garcia, the leading rider at Los Alamitos.

The favorite probably will be Treacherously, undefeated in eight races, who set the fastest qualifying time of 21.40 seconds. Earlier this year, Treacherously won the Ruidoso and Rainbow futurities, the first two legs of quarter horse racing’s triple crown. Only 1981 All American Futurity winner Special Effort has won the triple crown.
