HUNTINGTON PARK : Rape Suspect May Be Tied to 6 L.A. Crimes
A suspect arrested last month in a series of Huntington Park rapes and other crimes has been linked to at least six rape cases in Los Angeles, police said.
Alexander Salazar, 31, who has been charged with 35 counts including robbery, rape, sodomy and molestation of a 7-year-old girl in Huntington Park, is now under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department in crimes that include rape, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and molestation of a 14-year-old girl, police said.
Los Angeles police expect to complete their investigation this week, said Los Angeles police Detective Jay Romaine.
Salazar was arrested July 28 following a tip from neighbors who recognized his photo on a television newscast. He is being held without bail on the Huntington Park charges in County Jail. If convicted of those crimes, he faces up to 150 years in prison.
Salazar is a convicted felon who served nine years for raping a 90-year-old woman in Oakland in 1980, said Huntington Park police Detective Kenneth Rulon.
