Toronto’s Comeback, Aguiar’s Three Goals Defeat Salsa

Toronto scored three goals in the final 19 minutes to beat the Salsa, 3-1, in an American Professional Soccer League game Monday at Lamport Stadium in Toronto.

Fernando Aguiar scored all three goals for Toronto (9-13).

The Salsa dominated the first half, keeping the ball in the Toronto end much of the time.

Los Angeles’ goal came 34 minutes into the half when Paulinho scored off an assist from Paul Wright. The play started on a corner kick by Dale Ervine.

The Salsa kept the pressure up early in the second half but couldn’t score.

Aguiar’s first goal came 26 minutes into the second half. He then broke the 1-1 tie by beating two defenders and getting an open shot with about six minutes left. His final goal came in the final minute.

Los Angeles (11-8) remains in third place with 91 points despite losing for the second consecutive day. Montreal beat Los Angeles, 1-0, Sunday.

The Salsa returns home Friday for an 8 p.m. match against Montreal.
