WESTLAKE : Gear Taken From Deputy’s Squad Car

Share

A Ventura County sheriff’s deputy was left red-faced early Wednesday when someone stole equipment from his squad car while he investigated a fight at a Westlake bar.

Deputies were called to the Yucatan Cantina, 3800 Thousand Oaks Blvd., about 12:50 a.m. after two patrons, one on crutches, apparently got into an argument.

When deputies arrived, they found Alexander Hansen, 21, of Thousand Oaks bleeding from a cut on his face. Hansen told deputies that he had been hit in the face with a crutch.

Hansen was treated at Westlake Hospital and released. His assailant had already left the bar when deputies arrived.

While deputies were investigating the incident, someone entered an unlocked patrol car outside the bar and stole equipment worth about $1,800. Among the missing items was a helmet, flashlight, baton, citation book and binoculars.

Deputies made no arrests in the assault and have no suspects in the theft, Sgt. Terry Hughes said.
