A summary of significant Los Angeles City Hall decisions affecting the Westside in the last week. : CITY COUNCIL

* REWARD: Approved offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for shooting and killing Joseph Dennis Cole on Dec. 19 during a street robbery in the Oakwood area of Venice. Cole, 30, was the son of actor Dennis Cole.

* FLOOD DAMAGE: Approved spending $170,000 to repair a storm drain near 2012 Roscomare Road in Bel Air Estates that was damaged by the heavy rains in January and February. A private contractor will be selected to do the emergency repair work.

* APPOINTMENT: Approved the appointment of Dennis Tito as a member of the Board of Water and Power Commissioners. Tito, who lives in Pacific Palisades, replaces W. Anthony Willoughby, who resigned.

* FESTIVAL OF MASKS: Approved the closure of Cochran and Cloverdale avenues between 8th Street and Wilshire Boulevard on Oct. 17 from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the International Festival of Masks. The program encourages diverse communities to come together for cultural exchanges. The city will waive $2,689 in fees.

* DODGERS TICKETS: Councilwoman Ruth Galanter requested that $150 from her district public service funds be used to buy 20 baseball game tickets for the Library Adult Reading Project Literacy Council’s annual “Night at the Dodgers” on Sept. 8. The tickets would go to residents of the Mar Vista Gardens Housing Project.

* FARMERS MARKET: Galanter requested that 87th Street between Eastway and Truxton avenues be closed each Wednesday for six months between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. beginning Sept. 22 for the Westchester Farmers Market.

* FIRE SAFETY: Approved a proposal accepting $117,449 in federal funds that will be used to implement a city Fire Department program to educate children in preschool through third grade about the dangers of fire. The Learn Not to Burn program “will focus on enhancing the self-esteem and fire safety knowledge of students using positive role models” of Fire Department personnel. PASSED: 12-0.

VOTING YES: Marvin Braude, John Ferraro, Galanter, Nate Holden and Zev Yaroslavsky.

ABSENT: Jackie Goldberg and Mark Ridley-Thomas.

* ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAINING: Approved spending $953,000 in city and state funds to continue operating an entrepreneurial training program for the second year for prospective business owners in economically distressed areas of the city. The funds are used to assist in developing skills to ensure business success, including establishing good management and marketing techniques. PASSED: 12-0.

VOTING YES: Braude, Ferraro, Galanter, Holden and Yaroslavsky.

ABSENT: Goldberg and Ridley-Thomas.
