LOS ANGELES : Riordan Urges Support for After-School Program

Share

Mayor Richard Riordan has thrown his support behind an after-school child-care program that serves more than 4,000 public school students, saying that he will work to expand the service through private donations.

Riordan served on the board of directors of L.A.’s Best when it was initiated by former Mayor Tom Bradley in 1988. The program at 19 Los Angeles Unified School District elementary schools offers help with homework, counseling, field trips and computer education to children who are at risk.

“This program will pay for itself over and over again,” said Riordan, who was honored by L.A. Best leaders last week at a school district reception. “It is indeed better to build good person than to try and a fix broken adult.”
