The Bullfrogs didn’t want to take the Blades lightly, so they came out hitting hard and posted an unexpectedly easy 13-4 victory Tuesday at Anaheim Arena.

Bob McKillop scored a Roller Hockey International-record six goals and Brad McCaughey added two goals and three assists to lead the Bullfrogs to the semifinal victory before 8,437.

Anaheim advanced to the championship series against Oakland, which begins Friday at Anaheim Arena.

The teams will play a two-game series, the second one next Tuesday at Anaheim Arena. If the teams split the games, a five-minute overtime will be played to determine the league champion. If there is a tie after five minutes, a shootout will determine the champion.

“Our task is far from over,” Bullfrog Coach Chris McSorley said. “This team reaches its potential when it plays with a little fear in its blood. I never anticipated that the score would be that lopsided tonight.”

In the teams’ last meeting, the Blades defeated the Bullfrogs, 7-6, in a shootout, giving Anaheim its only blemish on its record.

“Before the game tonight, the locker room was quiet,” McKillop said. “The guys were a little edgy this week in practice when we heard we were playing L.A., but we definitely came together tonight.”

Because the Bullfrogs could only suit up 14 players, its top enforcer and leader in penalty minutes, Mike Butters, sat out.

Without Butters, team captain Kevin Kerr, who had a goal and two assists, set the tone early, drawing a two-minute roughing penalty 89 seconds into the game. The Bullfrogs’ physical play helped disrupt the Blades’ offense as Los Angeles struggled all night with its passing.

Anaheim had no such problem. Victor Gervais gave the Bullfrogs a 1-0 lead 47 seconds into the game, knocking a rebound of a Joe Cook slapshot past Los Angeles goalie Mike O’Hara.

Then McKillop took over.

The defenseman from Kitchner, Ontario, scored four goals in the first half, the first on a perfect feed from Darren Perkins to give the Bullfrogs a 2-0 lead.

With Anaheim leading, 3-0, McKillop scored three consecutive goals to give the Bullfrogs a 6-0 lead at the half.

Ken Murchison added two goals, Gervais had a goal and two assists, and Perkins had two assists.
