Main St. On-Ramp Closes Today for Widening Project
The Main Street on-ramp to the southbound Santa Ana Freeway was scheduled to be closed at 6 this morning until it reopens sometime in November, the California Department of Transportation said.
The closure is the latest in a series affecting the area near the Main Street bridge over the freeway. The bridge is closed for reconstruction as part of the Santa Ana Freeway widening effort.
Caltrans urges motorists to use the 17th Street ramp to the southbound freeway as an alternate route.
Caltrans engineers had expected to close the Main Street ramp for more than a year, but found ways recently to accelerate the project to avoid such a lengthy inconvenience.
The Main Street bridge itself is closed for two years.
