A 25-year-old Los Angeles man completed his 58-day, 641-mile walk to the state Capitol on Tuesday, meeting with Gov. Pete Wilson and urging him to help find more jobs for youths.

Reginald Morris, who rescued two motorists at the corner of Florence and Normandie avenues during last year’s riots, opened a jobs hot line in his home before starting his walk to the Capitol.

“Our young people feel they are outside of the American dream,” he said. “We need more jobs for our youth. Some of them feel there is no place for them in the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness.

“I decided to walk to Sacramento to let our legislators, our young people and our business community know that we need to come together to give our young people hope.”

Along the way, he said, he stopped to urge local elected officials and business leaders to provide more youth jobs.

Morris, who was accompanied by his wife, Renea, and his two young children, also asked the governor to be honorary chairman of a youth jobs summit. Wilson said he would consider it.
