PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Rolling May Play With Special Cast
- Share via
Linebacker Henry Rolling, who suffered a broken thumb against Green Bay, is wearing a cast up to the elbow of his right arm, but says he can play Sunday against Pittsburgh.
“If they need me,” he said, “without question, I can play.”
Rolling says he could be fitted with a “bubble cast,” a device that encases the entire hand to protect the thumb and fingers.
“I’ve never had a broken bone in my life, but I’ve seen other players play with bubble casts,” Rolling said. “I don’t think I could intercept any balls or anything, but I could play.”
Coach Chuck Knox has yet to decide about Rolling’s status.

Holdout tight end Jim Price signed a one-year contract. Price will have to sit out the next two games under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement.

The Rams’ search for a punt returner goes on. Former New York Giant receiver Joey Smith, who averaged 18.8 yards on 30 kickoff returns last season, will be at Rams Park for a tryout today.
