LOS ANGELES COUNTY : County Schools Chief to Leave Post, Teach at USC

Stuart E. Gothold, Los Angeles County superintendent of schools since 1979, will retire from his post and assume a teaching position at USC in September, 1994.

As superintendent, Gothold has supervised the Los Angeles County Office of Education, which provides a wide range of academic, business and consulting services to 95 school districts in the county. Gothold has also been responsible for ensuring the financial stability of county school districts and has the authority to intervene and force a district to change its financial decisions if he finds it is headed for insolvency.

In his new job, Gothold will become the director of the National Institute for School Superintendents at the University of Southern California.
