Woman, 34, Arrested Over Ambulance Theft

A Glendale woman stole an ambulance that had unloaded a heart attack victim at a Burbank hospital Thursday night and led firefighters in a fire engine on a wild mile-long chase before she was caught, authorities said.

Gay Simeon, 34, allegedly waited outside Thompson Memorial Medical Center, 466 E. Olive St., until paramedics rushed a patient inside before hopping into the ambulance and speeding off, said Burbank Fire Department spokesman Mike Hand.

Simeon, who was driving erratically, eluded the pursuing firetruck for about one mile before two flat tires forced her to slow down, Burbank Police Sgt. Tim Stehr said.

Simeon was arrested and taken to Burbank City Jail, where she was booked on a charge of grand theft auto, Stehr said.

“At this point, we really have no idea why she decided to do this,” Stehr said.
