Ramblin Guy Heads Field for Futurity on Del Mar’s Closing Day
Ramblin Guy is the favorite for the 46th Del Mar Futurity today, the closing day at Del Mar.
Seven 2-year-olds will run, with the winner getting $137,500.
Ramblin Guy has drawn the No. 3 post position, and trainer Brian Mayberry said that suited him fine.
Meanwhile, Winning Pact and Ferrara, both trained by Gary Jones, drew No. 6 and No. 7, respectively.
“We couldn’t ask for a better draw,” said Marty Jones, Gary’s son and assistant.
Balboa Stakes winner Creston drew No. 1, and trainer Jeanne Sahadi said she was not concerned.
“If he had to gun out of there it would be more of a problem,” Sahadi said, “but he’s got speed outside him. I just hope he runs well and comes back well.”
The complete Futurity field in post-position order with riders and weights: Creston, Corey Black, 119; Al Renee, Russell Baze, 117; Ramblin Guy, Eddie Delahoussaye, 119; Mr. Wonder Boy, John Atherton, 113; Flying Sensation, Ron Warren, Jr., 113; Winning Pact, Corey Nakatani, 115; and Ferrara, Kent Desormeaux, 115.
