A 17-year-old senior at Leuzinger High School in Lawndale remained in stable condition Tuesday after being shot during an argument with suspected gang members outside one of the school’s main gates.
The youth, Justin Sagato of Lawndale, was shot twice in the left shoulder shortly before 3 p.m. Monday as he and a classmate argued with five suspected gang members--also Leuzinger students--according to the Sheriff’s Department.
One of the suspected gang members fired four shots with a semiautomatic pistol and ran away, Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Mead said. Sagato, who is not believed to belong to a gang, was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday.
