PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Oilers’ Ryan: It’s Same Old Everett

Share

Defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan of the Houston Oilers, who will play the Rams on Sunday, said he saw nothing new when reviewing game tapes of Ram quarterback Jim Everett.

“Jim looks like he always does--a big arm and nervous feet,” Ryan said.

Everett, the lowest-rated passer in the NFL the past two weeks, has completed 49 of 103 passes for 531 yards with six interceptions and two touchdowns.

Ryan’s defense, which hasn’t given up a touchdown in two weeks, relies heavily on blitzing and man-to-man coverage. He said the Oilers blitzed only 10 times in an 18-17 loss to San Diego last Sunday.

Should the Rams expect to see more this Sunday?

“I don’t know for sure,” Ryan said. “It depends what they come up with on their (offensive) line.”

Henry Ellard needs five catches and three yards receiving to become the 13th NFL player to record 550 receptions and at least 9,000 yards. . . . The Rams’ 13 sacks ties them for first in the NFL with Cleveland, New Orleans and the Raiders.
