Walnut Couple Die in Plane Crash

Share

A Walnut couple were found dead in the wreckage of their twin-engine airplane Monday after it crashed into Mt. Pinos in Kern County, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.

The Kern County coroner’s office identified the couple as Lawrence Pace, 57, and Earnestine Pace, 59. The couple flew out of the Oakland area Sunday about 6:25 p.m. in their Beechcraft Baron.

Their destination was not known. They had not filed a flight plan with the FAA because they were flying under visual flight rules, meaning they asked for no assistance from air traffic controllers.

The impact of the crash activated the plane’s emergency locater device, which sends a signal to a satellite monitored by Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. However, investigators had not determined the exact time of the crash.
