Whittier : Lowell Schools to Decide How to Fill Seat on Board
Trustees for the Lowell Joint School District will decide Monday how to replace board member Joyce Canfield, a 20-year board veteran who died July 6 at the age of 58 after a decade-long battle with cancer.
Supt. Ronald T. Randolph said he will recommend that the board appoint a replacement rather than hold a costly special election.
If the trustees adopt Randolph’s plan, the city will conduct interviews in October and November and choose a new board member by December. The appointee would serve the remainder of Canfield’s term, which expires in November, 1994.
Randolph praised Canfield’s dedication to the school system. “She never missed a board meeting until the last few months,” he said. “We relied on her for historical continuity.”
