Traveling With a Full Palette to New York City

It’s the time of year when an art lover’s fancy turns to New York City. Many of the major museums are mounting new exhibits to usher in the season. Here are some highlights:
A retrospective exhibit celebrating the 100th birthday of Spanish artist Joan Miro opens Oct. 13 at the Museum of Modern Art. One of the foremost collections of Impressionist masterpieces is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new 19th-Century European Paintings and Sculpture Galleries. Korean masterpieces from major collections dominate “Korean Arts of the 18th Century: Splendor and Simplicity,” which opens next Sunday at the Asia Society Galleries. More than 130 major paintings and sculptures will make up a retrospective of pop artist Roy Lichtenstein, which opens Oct. 8 at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. More than 70 excellent examples of watercolor drawings from the Netherlands’ so-called Silver Age (1700-1800) opens Nov. 7 at the Frick Collection.
