Governor’s Cup Is Won by 50-1 Shot
Tri To Watch, a 50-1 shot owned by 96-year-old Fred W. Hooper, upset 7-10 favorite Gundaghia in the $40,000 Governor’s Cup at Fairplex Park on Tuesday.
Ridden by Victor Navarro, Tri To Watch paid $103, $16.60 and $2.10 in winning his fifth race in 30 career starts and earned $22,000. Gundaghia entered the race with four victories in five lifetime starts at the Los Angeles County Fair track, including two consecutive victories in the Governor’s Cup.
Gundaghia led in the deep stretch but Tri To Watch surged to win by a neck, carrying 114 pounds to Gundaghia’s 124.
