HUNTINGTON BEACH : Rally Tonight Will Aid Bolsa Chica

Share

A rally to help save Bolsa Chica from residential development is scheduled for 7:30 tonight, beginning in the 17200 block of Sandra Lee St.

Organizers said partipants will carry banners and flashlights and will march to the nearby perimeter of undeveloped lands bordering Bolsa Chica.

The event is being held by Bolsa Chica Land Trust, Preserve Bolsa Chica Task Force of the Sierra Club, Surfrider Foundation and Huntington Beach Tomorrow.

Bolsa Chica Land Trust President Flossie Horgan said the rally seeks to convince people “that it’s still not too late to save the mesa.”

Crews have been working since Sept. 9 under a California Coastal Commission permit to demolish two World War II gun emplacements, but not for any other work leading to the development in the area.

Horgan said she is concerned that people incorrectly believe that actual development has started and that nothing can be done about it. Horgan said her group is working on ways to acquire Bolsa Chica and preserve its entire 1,700 acres.

The Koll Co. wants to build up to 4,884 homes while preserving 1,100 acres of wetlands in Bolsa Chica.
