Van Nuys 34, Canoga Park 12--Van Nuys running back Larry Reed rushed for 151 yards in 18 carries and scored twice to lead the host Wolves (3-1).
Juan Garcia opened the scoring for Van Nuys in the first quarter with a one-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Chris Byfield (five of six for 11 yards) connected with Reed on a 21-yard pass, capping an eight-play, 88-yard drive and putting Van Nuys up 17-0.
Defensive back Victor Olivares intercepted a Byfield pass with four seconds remaining in the first half and took it 45 yards to put the Hunters (0-4) on the board at halftime.
Quarterback John Carlsen (six of 15 for 95 yards) connected with Scott Rand for a 35-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Hunters’ final score.
Van Nuys piled up 363 yards total offense.
