The sounds of a victory celebration could be heard Wednesday in Anaheim Arena after the Mighty Ducks beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, on Tim Sweeney’s power-play goal at 14:48 of the third period.

“It just feels great to win again. We’d been working for it,” said right wing Terry Yake, who gave the Ducks a 2-0 lead in the first 12 minutes.

The goals, Yake’s 18th and 19th of the season, were assisted by Anatoli Semenov and Troy Loney. The Ducks then settled in and held off a Philadelphia team that was playing its fifth game in seven days.

The Flyers seemed to be looking for a breather when they met the Ducks, but instead they got a dose of physical play that even Eric Lindros didn’t seem to care for Wednesday.

Sweeney’s goal, his 15th, came after a slashing penalty against defenseman Terry Carkner. Sweeney shoved a rebound past Tommy Soderstrom with 11 seconds remaining on the power play.

“I think we caught them a little bit tired, but we played the way we need to if we’re going to win,” Coach Ron Wilson said. “We established a physical presence early, but we also quit taking the unnecessary penalties.”

Mark Recchi and Kevin Dineen scored for the Flyers, who were limited to 24 shots.
