John Wathan, interim manager of the Angels during much of the 1992 season, will not return to the team next season.
Wathan, the bench coach, served as manager after Buck Rodgers was seriously injured in a bus crash. The Angels said Wathan had been offered a minor league coaching position but turned it down “to pursue other major league opportunities.”
The Angels claimed infielder Mike Brumley off waivers and designated John Orton for assignment.
Major league owners voted 28-0 to approve the $173 million sale of the Baltimore Orioles from Eli Jacobs to a group headed by Peter Angelos.
Casey Candaele, Jim Lindeman and Rick Parker of the Houston Astros became free agents when they refused to go to the minor leagues.
