Giants’ Williams Offers Apology
San Francisco’s Matt Williams has apologized for remarks directed at Dodger pitcher Orel Hershiser.
“I was upset that we lost and upset with what transpired,” Williams said in a telephone interview. “If I downgraded the Dodger organization, coaches and players in any way, which I think I did, I apologize.”
Williams had been critical of remarks he said Hershiser had been making in the final game of the season, won by Dodgers, 12-1, to end the Giants’ season and had said that Hershiser should be prepared next year for line drives up the middle. He also said the Dodgers would not beat the Giants even one time next year. Story, C8
