ROUNDUP : Thousand Oaks Romps at Fountain Valley Meet

The Thousand Oaks High boys’ cross-country team rolled to its sixth consecutive victory of the season in the Division II race of the Fountain Valley Invitational in Central Park on Saturday.

Paced by the one-two-three finish of Brandon Del Campo, Kevin Marsden and Jeff Fischer, the Lancers totaled 19 points, 85 ahead of runner-up Chula Vista.

Del Campo, a senior, set a course record of 14 minutes 53 seconds over the three-mile distance and juniors Marsden and Fischer followed in 15:02 and 15:10.

Senior Chadd Aldrich placed fifth in 15:18 for Thousand Oaks, the No. 1-ranked team in the state Division I poll.

The Lancers placed fourth in the girls’ Division II race, led by the runner-up finish of sophomore Tara Marsden, who ran 19:01 over the three-mile course.

COLLEGE CROSS-COUNTRY

Nevada Las Vegas Invitational--Lori Miller finished fifth and Jennifer Andrews placed eighth to power the Cal State Northridge women’s team to a third-place finish at Sunset Park.

Miller, a sophomore, ran 18:43.2 over the 5,000-meter course and Andrews, a senior, ran 19:11.6 to help the Matadors to a 77-point total.

Arizona State placed first with 37 points, followed by Cal State Long Beach with 61.

Northridge placed fourth in the men’s race with 106 points.

Rik Provenzano was 13th for the Matadors.

Arizona State (29), Nevada (34) and Southern Utah (76) placed first through third.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

CS Sacramento d. CS Northridge, 12-15, 15-10, 11-15, 15-13, 15-10--Northridge junior Aimee Stone had match-high totals of 30 kills and 18 digs, but the Matadors could not prevent the Hornet comeback in the nonconference match at Northridge.

The loss prevented Northridge (8-10) from reaching the .500 mark and it was the second defeat of the year to the Hornets, who defeated the Matadors in four games Sept. 4.

Stone’s 30 assists tied the Matador Gymnasium record set by teammate Missy Clements in a four-game victory over Fresno State on Sept. 28.

Clements added 21 kills for Northridge on Saturday, but the Matadors hit poorly (.124).

Nicole Harty had 17 kills for Sacramento (14-6) and teammate Jenny Gunderson set a Matador Gymnasium record with 13 block assists. CSUN’s Ana Kristich held the previous mark of 11.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

El Camino Real d. Royal, 15-13--The Conquistadores overcame a 12-11 deficit to win the championship of the Royal Classic.

El Camino Real, which finished pool play of the 14-team tournament with a 3-5 record, entered the quarterfinals seeded No. 8. However, the Conquistadores upset top-seeded Long Beach Wilson, 15-10, then added a 15-8 semifinal win over Louisville.

El Camino Real’s Jessica Dinaberg was named the tournament’s most valuable player, and teammates Gretchen Vandenberg and Samantha Small received all-tournament honors.
