PREP CROSS-COUNTRY ROUNDUP : Three Tie for First in Sonora Boys’ Victory

Mike Grigsby, Jose Gonzalez and Alex Lopez each finished the three-mile course in 16 minutes 36 seconds for a three-way tie for first to lead Sonora to a 20-37 victory over Fullerton in Freeway League boys’ cross-country Thursday.
Sonora is 4-0 in league.
In the Garden Grove League:
Batterman wins--Bryan Batterman of La Quinta won the three-mile race at Mile Square Park in 16:40, but the Aztecs lost to Rancho Alamitos, 20-38, and to Kennedy, 22-33, in a three-way meet. Rancho Alamitos defeated Kennedy, 15-50.
In the Garden Grove League:
Santiago wins twice--Ben Mejia was individual winner over the three-mile course at Mile Square Park in 15:38 to lead Santiago (4-0 in league) over Garden Grove, 16-43, and Pacifica, 15-49, in a three-way meet. Garden Grove defeated Pacifica, 16-40.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Hills 15, Laguna Beach 50--Vince Nguyen, Robert Genin, Brent Youngren, Danny Minx, Steve Minx and Ryan Miller tied for first in 18:18 over three miles at Alta Laguna Park to lead Laguna Hills (4-0).
In the Sunset League:
Huntington Beach wins two--John Nichols ran 15:32 over three miles at Central Park to finish first and lead Huntington Beach (4-1 in league), which defeated Edison, 18-49, and Ocean View, 19-44. Edison defeated Ocean View, 24-32.
Marina 23, Fountain Valley 34--Paul Connors won in 16:14 over the three-mile course at Marina High for the host Vikings (2-3).
In Orange League girls’ cross-country:
Brea-Olinda 15, Anaheim 46--Kelly Daucher of Brea-Olinda broke 19 minutes at La Palma Park, finishing in 18:56 for three miles, to lead Brea-Olinda (6-3, 3-0 in league). Teammate Emma Cortez finished second in 20:38.
In the Sunset League:
Edison dominates--Kerry O’Bric covered three miles at Central Park in Huntington Beach in 18:25, and three Charger teammates followed her in the top five as Edison topped Huntington Beach, 15-50, and Ocean View, 16-44.
Fountain Valley 18, Marina 42--Fountain Valley’s Rebecca Amour won in 19:24 over the three-mile course at Marina High.
In the Freeway League:
Sonora 17, Fullerton 38--Sonora’s Sharon Moreno won in 20:10, Christi Salamone took second in 20:18, Elizabeth Maxey was third in 20:45 and Kathi Aagaard took fifth in 21:18 to lead the Raiders (2-1 in league).
In the Garden Grove League:
Choi wins--Suzy Choi of Rancho Alamitos won the three-mile race at Mile Square Park in 20:54 to lead the Vaqueros (3-1) to a 21-34 victory over La Quinta and a 17-38 victory over Kennedy in a three-way meet. La Quinta defeated Kennedy, 22-33.
