Joe Montana will probably start for the Kansas City against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, Chief Coach Marty Schottenheimer said.

Montana went through a light workout on Wednesday, his first since injuring his left hamstring Oct. 3 against the Raiders.

“It felt pretty good,” said Montana, who sat out last week’s game against Cincinnati. He also missed the Chiefs’ second game of the season at Houston because of a sore wrist.

The Miami Dolphins have expressed an interest in acquiring Cleveland quarterback Bernie Kosar, according to a published report, but Brown President Art Modell denied that a trade is brewing.

Dolphin quarterback Dan Marino suffered a season-ending Achilles’ tendon injury last Sunday at Cleveland. Kosar lost his starting job to Vinny Testaverde after struggling in the 24-14 loss to Miami.

The Miami Herald reported Thursday that the Dolphins have talked informally about a deal with Bernie Kosar Sr., the father and representative of the Browns’ quarterback.

The NFL trading deadline is Tuesday.

New England Patriot rookie safety Corwin Brown was fined $3,500 by the NFL for hitting Phoenix tight end Derek Ware with the crown of his helmet. The play occurred early in the second quarter of the Patriots’ 23-21 victory last Sunday. Steve Beuerlein’s third-down pass fell incomplete, and Ware suffered a concussion. He sat out the rest of the game.

Last month, the NFL fined Phoenix Cardinal safety Chuck Cecil $30,000 for hitting two receivers with his helmet during a game against Washington on Sept. 12.

The NFL said in a statement that its rules prohibit a player from using the top of the helmet against a receiver trying to catch a pass.
