FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Mother Foils Kidnap of Toddler Daughter

Share

An unidentified woman tried to kidnap a 14-month-old Huntington Beach girl Friday morning as the toddler stood by her mother in a fabric shop.

Police said the woman snatched the girl while a man distracted the toddler’s mother in Jenny’s Fabrics in the 8900 block of Warner Avenue.

The mother had placed the child at her side while she was examining some fabric, said Sgt. Dann Bean. A few moments later, a man approached the mother and asked her about some fabric, police said.

The mother, who was not identified, noticed her child was missing and spun around to see her daughter in the woman’s arms, police said. The mother screamed out her daughter’s name and the would-be kidnaper put the child down.

The couple then fled the store without saying anything, police said.

The woman was described as about 35 years old and 5 feet 7 tall inches with medium blond hair. She wore a green, long-sleeved shirt and dark-colored pants.

The man was described as between 35 and 40 years old, about 175 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He wore a bright blue knit shirt with a white emblem on it. He had faded blue jeans and black tennis shoes.
