One More Fact

Share

Your Oct. 3 article on Lillehammer (“The Next Olympic Village”) omitted what I regard as an important fact about that lovely city. . . . It was the birthplace and later the home of Nobel laureate Sigrid Undset, author of one of this century’s greatest novels. “Kristin Lavransdatter.” There is a street named in her honor.

Where Was That?

Having been in France while the article on “Small Paris Hotels” (Sept. 19) was published, I’ve just gotten around to reading it--and must ask: Where is the writer finding cups of coffee that “easily run $5”? The Georges V? Since my numerous cups of coffee never cost more than the equivalent of $3, I must be hanging out in the wrong arrondissements!

Disappointed

As a longtime reader, I am extremely disappointed in the “new” Travel Section. It (along with the Book Review) is the part of the Sunday paper I save for last . . . to savor . . .. Although the section is now formatted for articles to be cut out easily, it seems you have sacrificed quality and length for “shorter, faster, bland tidbits.”

Did revamping the Travel Section mean that the “News & Briefs” column (even though it was short, it was quite interesting. I do not need my reading material to be bold, nor in color, to find it fascinating) had to be taken out? And . . . what about Judith Morgan’s “Her World”? Her byline was one I always looked forward to.

Why is the Los Angeles Times always disappointing me? I was not pleased when the entire paper went into the “Faster (USA Today-like) Format” a few years ago.

Unfortunately, your publication has a “lock” on L.A. residents . . . Perhaps someone will challenge the Los Angeles Times one day.

A Question of Dates

I work for Hostelling International and travel extensively and I found the use of “AD 330” (as a date) in “Across Holy Ground” on Sept. 19 insulting. I believe the designation “CE” (Common Era) is far more appropriate.
