South Gate : First Phase of 10-Year Road Repair Project Begins

Share

The city has embarked on the first phase of a major street repair program that will fix or replace all 128 miles of the city’s streets within 10 years.

The $17-million repair program was developed after a yearlong study analyzed the condition of every block of city roads and recommended repairs.

During the first stage, which began last Thursday, workers are repairing streets that are cracked but in fair condition. About 25% of the roads will be fixed in four weeks in the $700,000 first stage, which will be paid through state gasoline tax funds. About 85% of the roads should be repaired within three years, said Shafique Naiyer, associate civil engineer.
