THOROUGHBRED RACING : Craig Wary of Hollywood Wildcat

Sky Beauty might be a horse-of-the-year candidate, but the owner of Paseana, winner of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Distaff, fears another filly when the $1-million stake is run at Santa Anita on Nov. 6.

“I know that the filly from New York (Sky Beauty) is one of the top choices for horse of the year, but I’m more afraid of the horse who’s already here, Hollywood Wildcat,” Sidney Craig said. Craig, who runs the international chain of dieting centers with his wife, Jenny, will be paying a $200,000 supplementary fee for the second consecutive year to make Paseana eligible for the Distaff. The first two finishers in the race earn respective purses of $520,000 and $200,000.

Hollywood Wildcat, a 3-year-old, is undefeated in four starts, two each on dirt and grass, since she was sent to trainer Neil Drysdale in California last summer. She won the Hollywood Oaks and the Del Mar Oaks and in her last race, at Santa Anita on Oct. 11, she won the Lady’s Secret Handicap by two lengths. Both the Lady’s Secret and the Distaff are on dirt.

Sky Beauty, a 3-year-old who won the Rare Perfume Stakes at Belmont Park on Oct. 10, will come into the Distaff with a five-race winning streak, after running second in her first start this year.

Horse Racing Notes

Sidney and Jenny Craig are shopping to buy another horse that might represent them in the Breeders’ Cup races. The Craigs have bought horses specifically to run in the Kentucky Derby the last two years, and in 1992 their Dr Devious, after running seventh at Churchill Downs, won the English Derby. . . . The Craigs’ Super Trax won the feature at Santa Anita on Wednesday.
