OAK TREE : Pacific Squall Is Fourth; $40,000 Show Bet Misses
Racing for the first time since Jan. 30, Pacific Squall was fourth in a five-horse race at 2-5 odds in the $55,000 allowance feature Thursday at Santa Anita, and that proved costly to one unidentified bettor.
This was only the second time in nine races that the 4-year-old Storm Bird filly had been worse than third, and a $40,000 show bet on her had been made at the Barona intertrack location in Lakeside.
Her off-the-board finish in the one-mile turf race made for inflated show prices on the first three finishers. Sacramentada, who won the race as the 3-1 second choice, paid $8.80, $5.20 and $11.60. Runner-up Supah Gem paid $11.40 and $31.60 and Euphonic paid $14.40.
Of the total show pool of $77,065, $67,065 had been bet on Pacific Squall.
