Top-ranked Los Alamitos got five touchdown passes from Mike Good to defeat Loara, 41-6, and run its unbeaten streak to 28 games in an Empire League game at Long Beach City College Thursday night.

Sophomore wide receiver Tony Hartley was the recipient of three touchdown passes.

On defense, the Griffins came within 30 seconds of posting their fifth shutout of the season, holding Loara to eight yards rushing.

Saxon running back Denis Dawson, who came into the game as Orange County’s 10th leading rusher, was held to eight yards in 13 carries.

The only mistakes by the Griffins were five turnovers that enabled Loara to venture into Los Alamitos territory.

Los Alamitos (7-0, 2-0) got on the board on its opening possession when Good spotted a wide-open Hartley crossing over the middle for a 47-yard score.

Brad Melsby gave the Griffins a 14-0 lead with 1:08 left in the first quarter when he caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Good. After a partly blocked punt gave Los Alamitos the ball at the Saxons’ 36, Good needed only one play to find Hartley in the end zone for a 21-0 lead.

Anthony Tucker scored on a 27-yard touchdown reception with two minutes left in the first half, giving the Griffins a 28-0 halftime lead. Hartley pulled in his third touchdown pass late in the third quarter to give Los Alamitos a 34-0 lead.

Loara (2-3-2, 0-1-1) spoiled the shutout with 30 seconds left in the game when Jim Kirkland threw a 16-yard touchdown to Floyd Talley.

Good finished the game 14 of 25 for 261 yards and Hartley made four receptions for 116 yards.
