MISSION VIEJO : Animal Shelter Plans Fund-Raiser

Share

It’ll be a gala event that organizers hope will be a howling success.

The puns will fly during the Mission Viejo Animal Shelter Puttin’ on the Dog fund-raiser Saturday evening, where both canines and humans are expected to be dressed to the teeth. The event consists of a champagne, beer and wine reception; buffet; silent auction and live chamber music.

Proceeds will benefit the Friends of Mission Viejo Animals, a nonprofit volunteer shelter support group. The money will pay for education programs and efforts to keep stray animals alive.

The city houses and feeds strays for 30 days. After a month, the Friends group takes over the costs of lodging the animals until a home is found.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. event are $30, and guests are asked to dress up. In keeping with the theme, dogs and cats at the shelter will be outfitted in bow ties and collars. The newly built shelter, which opened last week, is at 28095 Hillcrest.

Puttin’ on the Dog is the first major fund-raiser organized by the Friends of Mission Viejo Animals.
